La Meseta: Liminal and Sublime

On the Camino Francés, La Meseta is often dismissed as flat, hot, shadeless fields between Burgos and León.  Sometimes described as monotonous and boring, Pilgrims often choose to skip this section of the Camino when pressed for time.  On this physical journey, I delighted in the spaciousness of the open skies, flowing fields of red poppies, and the stunning silence. I experienced a magical landscape which was both healing and nurturing.  The sublime physical beauty provided inspiration for discovering my Inward Road– an inner journey to seek spiritual insight and self-reflection.
